1. INTRODUCTION
Girls’ Empowerment and Advocacy Nextwork (“GEAN”, “we”, “our”, or “us”) is a not-for-profit, non-political organisation registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) of Nigeria in 2025. We are committed to protecting the privacy and personal data of everyone we interact with, including our beneficiaries, donors, volunteers, partners, and website visitors. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights in relation to it.
By engaging with GEAN, using our website, or donating through our platforms, you agree to the practices described in this policy.
2. INFORMATION WE COLLECT
We may collect the following types of personal information:
- Identity data: name, date of birth, gender
- Contact data: email address, phone number, mailing address
- Donation data: donation amount, payment method, transaction history
- Beneficiary data: school, class, location, programme participation details
- Volunteer data: skills, availability, location, next of kin
- Communications data: messages, emails, and correspondence with GEAN

3. HOW WE USE YOUR INFORMATION
We use personal information for legitimate purposes ONLY, including:
- Processing and acknowledging donations
- Communicating with donors, volunteers, and partners about GEAN’s work
- Administering scholarship and support programs for beneficiaries
- Sending newsletters, impact reports, and updates (with your consent)
- Complying with legal and regulatory obligations as a CAC-registered organisation
- Improving our programs and services
4. HOW WE SHARE YOUR INFORMATION
GEAN does not sell, trade, or rent your personal information to third parties. We may share information only in the following circumstances:
- With trusted service providers (e.g. payment processors, email platforms) who support our operations, under strict data protection agreements
- With grant-making bodies or regulatory authorities where required by law or funding compliance
- In anonymised or aggregated form for reporting and impact measurement
5. DATA RETENTION
We retain personal data only for as long as necessary for the purpose it was collected, or as required by Nigerian law. Donor records are retained for a minimum of 7 years for financial compliance. Beneficiary records are retained for the duration of their programme participation plus 3 years. You may request deletion of your data at any time (see Section 7).
6. DATA SECURITY
GEAN takes reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal data against unauthorised access, loss, or disclosure. However, no method of transmission over the internet is completely secure. We encourage donors and partners to contact us immediately if they suspect any security breach.
7. YOUR RIGHTS
You have the right to:
- Access the personal data GEAN holds about you
- Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data
- Request deletion of your personal data (subject to legal obligations)
- Withdraw consent for communications at any time
- Lodge a complaint with the relevant authority if you believe your data rights have been violated

8. CHILDREN'S PRIVACY
GEAN works with girls aged 11–25. Where we collect data relating to minors (under 18), we obtain consent from a parent or guardian. Beneficiary data for minors is handled with extra care and is never shared publicly without appropriate anonymisation.
9. CHANGES TO THIS POLICY
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on our website and communicated to key stakeholders. Continued engagement with GEAN after changes are notified constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
